Ask Eva: Preventing Plantar Fasciitis

I am a runner, and have heard that massage can prevent or treat plantar fasciitis. Is that true?

Plantar fasciitis, an inflammation of the band of tissue at the bottom of your foot, is one of the most common causes of heel pain.  Runners are especially prone to plantar fasciitis.  The good news is that massage is a very effective means of dealing with plantar fasciitis pain. Massage therapists have several different techniques at their fingertips to address tendon and tissue pain and stress, including deep tissue and trigger point therapy.

Massage can help the condition from reoccurring. Between massages, stretching exercises will also help alleviate or prevent plantar fasciitis. Ask your therapist to show you some of these stretches.
