Before You Go
Questions to ask your doctor:
- Will SmartLipo reshape my body?
- How many inches can I lose with SmartLipo?
- What can I expect my body to look like over time?
Pre-procedure prep for Smartlipo Laser Liposuction: You may need to have a blood test two weeks prior to your SmartLipo appointment. Aspirin, ibuprofen, steroids, and anti-inflammatory medications should be avoided at this time too.
A week prior to treatment, cut down on alcohol consumption and increase your water intake (one to two quarts are recommended per day).
On the day of treatment: Shower on the day of your SmartLipo appointment to cleanse your skin. Do not apply any creams, makeup, or lotions. Wear or pack comfortable clothes for after your SmartLipo procedure.
What To Expect
The SmartLipo device generates heat using an Nd:YAG laser (with a wavelength of 1064 nm, to be exact). Put plainly, heat melts fat, and once it's liquefied, the fat can slip from your body with ease. SmartLipo removes body fat using a 1.0 - 2.0 mm straw-like tube, known as a cannula.
This tubing is slimmer in diameter than the ones used for liposuction. As a bonus, the heat also simulates collagen production, which tightens up skin in the affected area. Your skin may be temporarily bruised and tender for two to three days.
Who should do it: SmartLipo, and any other body sculpting surgery, should be performed by a licensed physician trained to use the fat removal device.
Duration: Each area you treat with SmartLipo takes 45 minutes to one hour. On average, SmartLipo takes two to three hours per session.
How Painful Is It?
The use of a local anesthetic ensures that no significant pain is felt during SmartLipo, however mild tugging and stinging may be noticed.
Options for anesthesia: SmartLipo is performed under local anesthesia.
