Pilates uses resistance training and a rotation of 500 exercises to work the body's midsection, improve muscle tone, balance, coordination, posture, and mental focus.

Is Pilates safe for women who are pregnant?

Daniel Loigerot (New York, NY) on Sep 22, 2011
Pilates is a safe and effective method of body conditioning. That said, a pregnant woman should exercise with caution. In the first trimester, no modifications are needed. In the second trimester, avoid overhead exercises, and perform torso rotation moves with care. In the last trimester, avoid supine positions on the reformer. I recommend standing exercises, like wall squats.
