Microdermabrasion is a mild mechanical exfoliation that removes the top layer of dead skin cells, revealing the fresh, healthy cells beneath.

Are microdermabrasions safe to get during the summertime?

Shohreh Vaziri (Washington, DC) on Nov 8, 2011
Yes, but make sure you wear sunblock.
Robert Strimling (Las Vegas, NV) on Nov 8, 2011
Yes, but wear an least an SPF 30 sunscreen when outside until any redness you may have fades.
Jean Dachnowicz (New York, NY) on Nov 8, 2011
Yes, microderms are safe to get in the summer. Just be sure to avoid the sun 72 hours before and 72 hours after. When I say avoid, I mean use a compound sunblock with zinc with at least SPF 30 and try to wear a hat and glasses when in bright sunlight. But by no means do you have to sit in your home with the shades pulled...just be careful and do not sunbathe at the beach 72 hours before or after.

Microdermabrasions, by their very nature, do not usually penetrate deeply into the skin and therefore do not often cause the skin to be hypersensitive. Naturally every patient should take appropriate measures to protect their skin at all times during the year.
