Juvederm is one of the most popular facial fillers. It's largely composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the skin. Juvederm is available in two different strengths: Ultra and Ultra Plus. While both fillers have the same amount of hyaluronic acid, Juvederm Ultra Plus has a higher degree of cross-linking, making it thicker and a little firmer.
What It's Good For
Juvederm can be injected into the face and lips, and is often used to treat nasolabial folds. Juvederm Ultra is designed to smooth shallow lines, while Juvederm Ultra Plus is thick enough for deeper wrinkles and facial folds. Both are available with lidocaine added to decrease discomfort.
Who it works for: Juevederm is a good all-around filler with an excellent safety record. Like other hyaluronic acid fillers, Juvederm carries little to no risk of permanent hyperpigmentation, or skin discoloration, for individuals with darker skin.
Recommended age range: Juvederm should not be used before your 18th birthday.
When will I see results?: You will see the results of your Juvederm injections immediately, though the treated area may appear swollen or bruised for a few days.
How long it lasts: Average Juvederm injections last between six and 12 months. The difference between Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus is in how long the injectables last in the body before being reabsorbed. Ultra Plus is more durable than Ultra due to a higher level of "crosslinking" between molecules. Ultra Plus lasts up to 12 months in the body while Ultra lasts up to nine.
Key benefits of Juvederm: Juvederm is a great all-around filler. It's long-lasting and has a moderately thick consistency, making it suitable for use almost anywhere on the face or body.
Licensed uses: Juvederm injectable gel (including Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, Juvederm Ultra XC, and Juvederm Ultra Plus XC), can smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including nasolabial folds.
Did you know?: Juvederm is the number one selling facial filling procedure in the United States.
Who's Done It?
In 2008 Golden Globe nominee Virginia Madsen decided to fill in the creases surrounding her mouth with Juvederm. Madsen raved to People that not only was she satisfied with Juvederm, but her family and peers were equally as thrilled. "They were surprised that I looked so 'normal,'" Madsen explained.
