Japanese Hair Straightening

Japanese hair straightening, also called thermal reconditioning, is a method of transforming even the curliest locks into pin-straight hair.

Japanese hair straightening treatment is a method of permanently straightening curly or wavy hair. Also called Thermal Reconditioning, Magic Straight, Bio Ionic Straightening or the Yuko system, this treatment is a type of relaxer that permanently alters the chemical composition of treated hair. People of African descent should not use this treatment, as their hair is too delicate for the procedure.

There are several Japanese straightening chemicals, like Yuko and Liscio, but they all function in the same manner, though Yuko is said to work better on coarser hair.

Japanese hair straightening turns hair stick-straight. After the treatment, hair will remain straight, even when wet. The newly-straightened hair will no longer take a curl, no matter what its previous condition. The treatment is permanent. As roots grow out, new Japanese hair straightening sessions will be required to straighten the new growth.

Who's Done It?

Some celebs said to have had the treatment include Julianne Moore and Tyra Banks.
