How do I know if I need an extraction?

When a client has acne we advise they see a dermatologist as well. You must be careful with your skin. Do not to try to do your own extractions, as this can cause scarring. There is a specific angle that is used for extractions. You should get extractions when you see pores getting larger and full of dirt or if you actually see the blackheads in your skin. It is best to have a monthly cleansing facial for better skin health. Extractions are included in the cleansing facial, which will get rid of much of the excess oil and dirt in the skin.

Extractions are done on any skin type. It is the process of manually removing open and closed comedones (blackheads & pimples) and milia. It is a great idea to have your extractions done by a professional. He or she will clean your skin and then spend time removing (extracting) as much as possible. During the procedure the professional should explain to you the proper method for doing it yourself.

An extraction is a procedure used to remove a blackhead or trapped oil and debris from skin follicles. When done properly, you should have a good result. Some skin types (mostly darker shades) are prone to hyperpigmentation (dark spots). If extractions are done, they must be very gentle.

It really depends on your skin type. Before your facial the esthetician will examine your skin and decide if you are an appropriate candidate for extractions, and, if so, what tools would be best. If your skin develops dark spots from insect bites or pimples, you have a condition called hyperpigmentation. I have many clients who experience hyperpigmentation. If a client is prone to hyperpigmentation,we cleanse, tone, use a special exfoliation mask, massage with steam, and then place hot gauze soaked in a special lotion on problem spots, which helps to melt the sebaceous oils that cause blackheads. Often the pores open after treatment, and we can just wipe away any debris released from the pore without using extraction methods. There are many benefits to facials besides extraction. For example, the facial massage (I use lavender oil-free soap) stimulates blood and lymph circulation, improves muscle tone, helps clean the skin of impurities a and provides a sense of psychological and physiological well-being.
