Dental crowns

Dental crowns are permanent tooth covers that are cemented to chipped, cracked or broken teeth to improve their appearance and function.

Do I HAVE to get a crown after root canal?

Robert Dolgow (Fort Lauderdale, FL) on Jan 8, 2013
The decision to have a crown involves how much of the natural tooth structure was lost due to decay or trauma and the reason for the root canal. If the filling is very large following the root canal, a crown is likely needed to provide strength and avoid breaking the tooth while eating.
Kamini Talati (Port Saint Lucie, FL) on Oct 2, 2012
A tooth that has had a root canal becomes brittle from the inside out. It could fracture or shatter beyond repair. It is ideal to crown a tooth after it has had a root canal the only time an exception is made to that rule is with front teeth.
