CranioSacral (SM) Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy is a massage form that targets the skull and spine.

Can craniosacral therapy treat tinnitus?

Nancy Paul (River Forest, IL) on Jan 13, 2013
Sometimes! It depends on the individual. CranioSacral therapy does treat the bones and sutures that effect the ear. CranioSacral therapists have had mixed results in the treatment of tinnitus.

Tinnitus: buzzing or ringing noise in the ear Causes can vary from excessive wax build up in the ear, damage to the eardrum, orinfection of the inner ear with a plethera of less obvious causes. CranioSacral Therapy (CST) works with the underlying cause of imbalance in the nervous system. It also aims to reduce restrictions of the bones, especially of the temporal bone which houses the ear, muscles and ligament attachments which when hypertonic (contracted) can exacerbate the problem. CST also removes restrictions on the bones of the skull, spinal column and sacrum allowing the ceribral spinal fluid (CSB) to flow. This flow is unique, like squeezing a water balloon; it flows from the skull down the manigies to the sacram in 3 second, then flows back. When restricted anything connected to this system is in stress, or distress. CST along with relaxation therapies such as neck massage or reiki, reduces the Tinnitus and the anxiety and stress that go along with it. TonyD, LMT, RMT

Craniosacral therapy can treat tinnitus, depending on the root cause of the symptom. I am aware of cases, some in my own client base where significant relief has followed Craniosacral treatment. The therapy itself has so many applications and beneficial results, if done by a qualified practitioner, who has done a proper intake and considered any contraindications or cautionary conditions, it can't hurt.

Yes! It can be amazingly effective!Craniosacral is beneficial for numerous symptoms, disorders, etc. It is a process that allows the body to heal itself. I have experienced, personally, the wondrous healing powers of this modality...both on myself and with my clients. I wish you the very best in healing!

Yes, sometimes CranioSacral is VERY effective for tinnitis, especially when this problem is related to structural issues affecting the tissue/nerves/sutural alignment around the temporal bone, ctc.
Rosemary Rickard (Tampa, FL) on Jan 6, 2013
Yes, Cranio Sacral therapy can help treat tinnitus. Mobilizing the cranium helps to realign the muscles and helps to pump the cerebral spinal fluid into the brain and spinal column. In additional, Structural Integration with Cranio Sacral Therapy and stretching is the best way to treat tinnitus.

It's quite possible that CST will improve symptoms of tinnitus.
Carol Stuhmer (Miami, FL) on Jan 6, 2013
CST can help. However, Tinnitus can be difficult to get total relief. Much has to do with cause.
Kate Peck (West Newton, MA) on Jan 6, 2013
Yes, depending on the cause of the tinnitus, craniosacral therapy may be helpful. The inner ear is housed in the temporal bones so any dysfunction of the temporal bones may cause or contribute to tinnitus. Any tension or pressure on the auditory nerve can also cause or contribute to tinnitus.

Yes craniosacral therapy has been very effective with tennitus. You might want to take a look at the website to read some of their posted case studies having to do with tennitus and the effects of treatment with craniosacral therapy. Theodore Schiff, LMT. CR.
