I have very chronic back pain. Is acupuncture something that would help me?

Marco Di Bonaventura (King Of Prussia, PA) on Sep 17, 2012
Acupuncture has long been used for chronic pain issues, especially back pain. Back pain can have a few different pathologies associated with it, like intestinal issues, such as IBS and colitis. A consultation and evaluation would be suggested to determine the root concern.

Acupuncture is very effective in treating chronic back pains. The main question is usually how long it takes to reduce the pain, and stop it from reoccurring. And that depends on the cause of the back pain. If the cause is more muscular(spasms, strains) it's easier to treat, and if it's more structural (disc bulge, pinched nerves) more difficult to treat. If you still need more information, please don't hesitate to contact our office. We'll be glad to answer all your questions.

Almost certainly. I became an acupuncturist myself after it helped my chronic back pain caused by a car accident. You usually need several treatments before seeing any improvement, and usually will need to stay on a maintenance schedule to manage pain. I treat many people with back pain, and most see significant improvement from regular acupuncture treatment.

Yes, I have treated thousands of bad backs successfully through 4 decades. And now I have an electromagnetic field stimulator which moves inflammatory fluids in minutes, reducing pain and healing the damaged fields. I use massage and heat when indicated. I am happy to answer any questions you have.

Yes, acupuncture would help. But much depends on what is causing this chronic back pain. If your spine have shifted. then acupuncture treatment will be temporary. If you have constant poor posture, muscle weakness, fatigue, etc., you must have several issues. You need a proper diagnosis before acupuncture treatment. Then your acupuncturist can come up with a proper treatment plan, which could include modalities like acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, Tui-na, massage, fitness and physical therapy.

In my acupuncture practice, most of the complaints I treat are related to pain, especially back pain. Whether it is of a sharp, stabbing nature from trauma or a dull ache, a feeling of cold in your back or just overall weakness or tightness of the surrounding muscles, acupuncture has been shown to be very effective in reduction and/or complete relief from chronic back pain.

Acupuncture is probably best known in America for its ability to treat back pain. It relieves pain, reduces inflammation, and improves healing for about 90% of patients. It is safe and time-tested; and has no side effects. I would suggest acupuncture be the first-string intervention in treating back pain. If it is chronic, you probably want to do some strengthening exercises for your core.
Alyssa Dazet (Santa Monica, CA) on Oct 2, 2012
Yes absolutely. What's going on in your back is some sort of imbalance. There's an imbalance in the muscle tensions, blood flow, lactic acids ... all of these things can result in pain. What acupuncture will do is balance out the flow of the back so the bio-mechanical and organ systems are able to heal the area. Chronic back pain can also have a lot to do with emotions - stress, anxiety and anger being quite common. Acupuncture can help to relieve and soothe a lot of these repressed emotions. Let me know if you have any further questions, I'm happy to help! Alyssa Dazet L.Ac. www.alyssadazet.com

Acupuncture is very successful and beneficial treating back pain. Make sure you see a licensed acupuncturist and be evaluated first. Depending on all of your history and extend of your injury will depend on the type and amount of treatments needed. And its hard to say how many treatments exactly needed. You could get great results the first time, but its not going to be your cure all. If you have good results the first time, it may only last a few days or a few hours. Multiple treatments in a row, will be your best success and see effects. Don't just try it once and if it doesn't work, give up. Talk to your acupuncturist and try a series and see how it helps. Its safe and there are no side effects, so you can't lose! If you even have 50% reduction in pain, you would be really happy rather than 100% of the pain 100% of the time.

Yes, Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine has been used for thousands or years and has treated billions of patients. Lower back pain is probably the number one thing we treat at our clinics. We have seen amazing results and helped avoid surgery and long term medication use.

Almost everybody knows that acupuncture is very effective for low back pain, However do you know the cause of the pain , do you have any X-ray or MRI to show the anatomy of the vertebrae of that area?what have you done already for that ? for how long do you have the problem?
