Can acupuncture help with anxiety? How does it help?
Wanyun Zhong (Atlanta, GA) on Oct 21, 2011
Yes, we treat many patients for stress and anxiety. The acupuncture treatment involves inserting needles into acu-points of the body. The acu-points are believed to be the reservoir of natural energy, called Qi. By stimulating the production and movement of the Qi, acupuncture is able to regulate and balance the Ying and Yang of our body (opposing aspects of body function). In this way, acupuncture helps in restoring the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Depending on the disease or condition treated, herbology, moxibustion, cupping, infrared light, electronic stimulation, tuina-massage, or, guasha might be used to enhance the effects of acupuncture.

Yes. Acupuncture is very helpful with anxiety. Acupuncture helps regulate your own body's neurochemicals that regulate mood, specifically serotonin and dopamine. You might feel better after your first treatment but it will take a few treatments for an extended period of time without anxiety.

Living in a fast-paced urban environment can make it difficult to unwind. We're constantly on the go, multitasking and just not getting enough "me" time. Acupuncture can assist in the unwinding. According to Chinese medicine we should calm the heart spirit (shen). I feel part of the challenge for many of us is to find that place of ease within ourselves and acupuncture provides a wonderful way to take us home.

Acupuncture is very helpful in treating anxiety and depression. In our clinic We have helped many severe anxiety patients eventually ween off dangerous anti anxiety medications. Just remember that its a process and not an instant cure. Consistency in treatments and a proper management with your physician can help you achieve the best results. Auricular (ear) acupuncture is often used in our clinic to augment the treatment.
