The ultimate goal of The Zone diet is for the body to metabolize fat efficiently, assisting with weight loss and boosting energy levels.

Foods Encouraged In Zone Diet

Protein should be integrated into every meal—even snacks. One portion of meat is about the size of a deck of cards; lean and low-fat meats are highly preferred.

Some carbs are considered "favorable" and some "unfavorable" on the Zone. Favorable carbs include lentils, beans and whole grains. Unfavorable carbs include pasta, bagels and bread.

Fats found in nuts, avocado, and olive oil can also be enjoyed in limited quantities in Zoneworld - two tablespoons is usually enough for a serving.

Foods To Avoid

Carbohydrates and simple sugars are not welcome in The Zone. Zone followers are urged to avoid bread, pasta, bagels, soda, candy and most breakfast cereals. Egg yolks are "unfavorable", though egg whites are fine. Dairy products should be low- or no-fat only.
