Fractional Laser Resurfacing for Acne Scars

Fractional non-ablative lasers pass over the skin’s surface, causing limited damage to the exterior while increasing collagen production below its surface. Fractional lasers distribute laser energy in separate, checkerboard-like fragments. Not all skin is affected at one time, so healthy tissues remain intact, and the recovery period is shorter than non-ablative lasers alone.

CO2 and erbium lasers are among the common fractional non-ablative lasers currently in use. Popular fractional non-ablative lasers are the Fraxel re:store and the Palomar Lux1540, both which are erbium lasers. It can take three to five sessions before improvements are seen, each session costs $750 to $1,500.
