Fat transfers are a good and long-lived method for filling nasolabial folds. The results tend to be long-lasting – but they are unpredictable. Some patients see their fat transfers dissolve almost immediately. It takes three to four fat transfers to reliably fill the nasolabial folds, especially if they are wide and deep. Fat transfer also requires a separate operation to harvest the fat (usually from the buttocks or abdomen.) This can be done on the same day as the fat transfer injections to the face, or on a prior day, with the harvested fat frozen for future use.
Make sure you have a doctor who understands new methods of fat preparation and transfer, as new methods significantly increase the success rate of fat transfer. Fat transfers cost about $1,500 or more per treatment.
