Licensed massage therapist Bruce Berger brings a bit of Russia, Japan, India and Mongolia to his offices in Greenport, N.Y., a wellness facility serving the Eastern Long Island area. Offering an array of massage modalities, Living Raw Foods workshops and yoga instruction, OhWhatAMassage is meant to be more than a just a session or two, but a guide to a healthier lifestyle.
Bruce’s practice, also known as Born to Massage Associates, reflects his and his staffs' mission: to help others through excellent bodywork and expert advice. Along with deep tissue, hot stone and prenatal massage, Bruce offers shiatsu, reflexology and kenbiki, a holistic therapy that features rocking and stretching.
Bruce comes from a clinical setting, previously working for several well-known medical institutions, including Maimonides Hospital and Southampton Hospital, where he focused on medical massage. He is a big proponent of movement therapy, and incorporates specialized passive and active stretching with movement exercise for clients recovering from trauma, strokes and neurological disorders. The modality is designed to help coordination between the muscular-skeletal and nervous systems.
When not working with clients, Bruce offers his services in another way: by teaching others how to benefit from a healthy lifestyle. He leads medical professionals through “Massage & Motion” workshops and also shows couples and families how to massage each other. In addition, he demonstrates the benefits of wheat grass and organic raw foods like kombucha tea, which he personally makes and distributes.
