Licensed massage therapist Emily Ahr first discovered the relaxing and healing power of massage on her honeymoon. “We went to Jamaica and I fell in love with massage!” she jokes.
Emily, who already held a bachelor of science degree in athletic training from the University of Cincinnati, decided to turn her new-found passion into a career. She trained at the American Institute of Massage Therapy and became certified in 2001.
“I love my job because I am helping people find relief from their pain,” Emily says. “And I like that I can incorporate my athletic training degree into my sessions.”
Emily goes on to explain that some of the pain her clients are feeling is referred pain: pain that is experienced at a location other than the area of stimulus. Emily’s background in athletic training allows her to recommend simple exercises and stretches, in addition to massage, that can help correct this pain.
Emily spent several years working in orthopedic offices, but decided to start her own mobile massage business in order to offer clients easier access to massage. She has over 10 years of experience, and practices in and around the Hamilton, Ohio area.
