In practice since 1987, Dr. Papel is board certified in both facial plastic surgery and otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. These disciplines combine the functional and aesthetic concerns of the face, head, and neck into one integrated practice. Dr. Papel combines advanced techniques with extensive surgical experience for optimal patient results.

Dr. Papel received his training at internationally recognized institutions. He received his B.A. from the Johns Hopkins University, and the earned a M.D. from Boston University School of Medicine. This was followed by a residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. A fellowship in facial plastic surgery was then completed at the University of California at San Francisco.

Dr. Papel is an associate professor at Johns Hopkins. He is actively involved in the surgical training of medical students, residents and fellows. Dr. Papel serves as co-director of the Facial Plastic Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He has been invited to serve as a visiting professor at more than 30 universities in the U.S., Europe, Asia, Mexico and South America.

Dr. Papel is a fellow of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He has taken leadership roles in many professional organizations, including election as president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Papel believes that advances in medical practice and academic excellence should be combined for optimum patient care. He has published extensively in surgical journals and textbooks, and is invited to make frequent scientific presentations in national and international forums.

Surgical privileges are maintained at the Facial Plastic Surgicenter, Greater Baltimore Medical Center, The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and the Surgicenter of Baltimore.
