Shari Auth

Shari A.

Massage Therapist "LMT"

Enter the light-filled offices of Shari Auth and you can't help but feel a sense of serenity as you come off the fast-paced streets of New York City. Shari herself is like a breath of fresh air—a soft-spoken woman whose expertise in Chinese medicine has drawn in some of the world's biggest celebrities (think Yoko Ono).

You're in good hands with Shari—literally. This alternative medicine healer has developed a unique forearm-based massage technique, called the Auth Method, that she teaches to other bodyworkers. In addition to being a certified massage therapist, Shari is also a licensed acupuncturist, Chinese herbologist and expert in structural integration, a system of bodywork that is also known as Rolfing.

In her Chelsea office Shari uses her expertise in different disciplines to treat patients who have a wide range of health issues, from autoimmune disorders and chronic pain to infertility and depression.

A natural healer, Shari enrolled in massage school almost by accident at age 23—she had planned to attend medical school but also found herself curious about alternative medicine. "I discovered I had a gift and never left the profession," she says. Today Shari shares her talents as a faculty member of the Swedish Institute.

Having a holistic view of the person, the massage specialist believes in looking at "the whole person" instead of focusing just on one symptom or problem. In this way, she creates a highly personalized level of care that addresses both physical and spiritual health.

Leaving after a session with Shari, you might even bump into one of her high-profile clients, like Sting—yes, that Sting—or supermodel Christy Turlington. Too bad you'll probably be too relaxed to notice.
