Information And Treatment
Strokes are an interruption of blood flow to the brain, caused by a blood clot blocking an artery or vein. The blockage of blood flow causes the death of brain cells. Strokes can be fatal. Stroke survivors often endure symptoms that may include speech, mental memory and/or physical impairment, and that range from minor to extremely debilitating. More than 2/3 of stroke survivors have a permanent disability.
CAM treatments sometimes used to improve recovery from strokes include acupuncture, which can increase blood flow to the brain and other organs, massage, which can alleviate the stress and tension of stroke recovery and lingering pain from nerve damage and asymmetrical body strength, and physical therapy, which can help stroke survivors regain physical function.
