Age Spots

Doctor's Terms

  • solar lentigines: the medical term for age spots

Information And Treatment

Age spots are flat pigmented spots on the skin. They're generally brown or black in color. Age spots appear in the areas most exposed to sun, including the face, hands, shoulders and arms. They can range from the size of a freckle to more than a centimeter across and can emerge in clusters, which makes them look more prominent.

Interesting Facts

Age spots are generally harmless, but check with a doctor if they turn very dark or change shape suddenly - it could be a sign of melanoma.
