{"id":14140,"date":"2017-03-01T20:57:45","date_gmt":"2017-03-01T20:57:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zeel.com\/blog\/?p=14140"},"modified":"2022-07-01T18:11:00","modified_gmt":"2022-07-01T22:11:00","slug":"how-to-create-a-positive-culture-at-your-company","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zeel.com\/blog\/workplace-wellness\/how-to-create-a-positive-culture-at-your-company\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Create a Positive Culture at your Company"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Employee Appreciation Day is an annual holiday which induces employers throughout the land to do things to show that they appreciate their employees.\u00a0 Of course, this is a great idea \u2013 every office should <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zeel.com\/blog\/your-best-massage\/five-ideas-for-celebrating-employee-appreciation-day\">celebrate Employee Appreciation Day<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But what is an even better idea is to make sure that employee appreciation doesn\u2019t just last one day of the year.\u00a0 (See: Valentine\u2019s Day celebration. Should you just appreciate your partner one day of the year? Rhetorical question.) \u00a0It behooves all employers to create a positive culture of appreciation at the workplace \u2013 which can have wonderful effects on the workplace all year long.<\/p>\n<h2>How can you create a culture of appreciation at your company?<\/h2>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Listen to employees about what perks they want<\/h3>\n<p>There is often a mismatch between what employers offer and what employees actually want. For example, employers might think that workers want \u201cEmployee of the Month plaques,\u201d office happy hours, and sponsored golf tournaments, but what employees actually want are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zeel.com\/chair-massage\">massages at work<\/a>, a 401(k) match, and sponsored volunteer time, for example. \u00a0An anonymous employee survey is a fast way to take the pulse of the company.<\/p>\n<h3>Take employee schedules into account<\/h3>\n<p>Many employees would love to celebrate with their colleagues \u2013 but might have after-work commitments and\/or weekend commitments that cause them to miss evening trips to the bowling alley or weekend retreats. Make sure all your employees are taken into account when planning events. That includes your remote employees \u2013 make sure they are involved in company activities too.<\/p>\n<h3>Build trust with employees to build a positive culture<\/h3>\n<p>Trust and transparency aren\u2019t just business issues \u2013 they are health issues as well.\u00a0 A lack of trust increases stress and reduces cooperation. According to one study, only <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pewsocialtrends.org\/2014\/03\/07\/millennials-in-adulthood\/sdt-next-america-03-07-2014-0-05\/\">19% of millennials say that most people can be trusted<\/a>. To build trust with your employees, you need to build a good relationship. Make sure they understand the reasons for actions the business takes. Involve employees in decisions that directly affect them.
