But your body still reacts to frightening situations with a burst of adrenalin and other bodily and mental changes. We know them as stress.<\/p>\n<h1>Why do we get stressed?<\/h1>\n<p>While stress is useful when fleeing predators, it\u2019s less useful in everyday modern life. Still, evolution is slow, and we\u2019re stuck with stress for the time being.<\/p>\n<p>Some stress is acute \u2013 caused by a sudden change, usually negative, like the death of a friend or family member, or a divorce. Even some neutral or positive changes, like moving or job change, can cause stress.<\/p>\n<h1>Stress and your health<\/h1>\n<p>Chronic stress, stress that persists for months of years, is caused by the routine problems of life: jobs, love life, family, money, endless elections. \u00a0This can be even more deleterious to our health. Since the body is constantly stressed, other necessary bodily functions fall by the wayside \u2013 like your mood, and your immune system.<\/p>\n<p>Chronic stress can have the following affects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Digestive issues (ever feel like you\u2019re sick to your stomach?\u00a0 Stress.)<\/li>\n<li>Depression<\/li>\n<li>Anxiety<\/li>\n<li>Insomnia<\/li>\n<li>Irritability<\/li>\n<li>Depressed immune system<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So if you\u2019re snappish, unhappy, sleepless, and get a lot of colds, you are most likely very stressed, and this day, Stress Awareness Day, was made for you.<\/p>\n<h1>Massage for stress, and other solutions<\/h1>\n<p>Now that you\u2019re aware of your stress, what can you do?
