Make Time for Self-Care and Treat Yo Self
As the holiday season approaches, it’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of modern life – job, kids, paying bills – and forget to nurture the greatest love of all (with apologies to Whitney Houston). That’s right, it’s time to Treat Yo Self (massages! fine leather goods!)
As enticing as the prospect of self-care sounds, it’s sometimes tough to know where to start. Here are a few things you can start doing today to make sure your precious self is treated.

A good night’s sleep
When we’re kids, we hate taking naps. When we’re grownups, there are few things we enjoy more. The average person needs between 7 and 9 hours of sleep a night. Chances are, you’re not getting that much sleep. Either you’re getting to bed too late, or you’re not getting quality sleep once you hit the sheets.
Zeel encourages you to get a restful night’s sleep. Try to get to bed an hour earlier. If you’ve had your pillows since high school, consider swapping them for a new model. As delicious as those vodka-sodas and Diet Cokes are, they’re not exactly great for you. Consider some equally yummy and much healthier beverages, like green tea and maple water.
Good news: red wine and coffee are good for you too
Red wine is not only delicious and an excellent companion to pizza, it’s also replete with antioxidants, especially a substance called resveratrol, which lowers bad cholesterol and stress (obviously) and improves heart health too.
Coffee is another drink that doesn’t get all the wellness credit it deserves – not only are those precious roasted beans delicious, coffee can reduce the likelihood of some cancers, as well as diabetes.
Get your massage
Massage, true, is a wonderful method of self-care. And the great thing about massage is that it not only feels great, it’s great for you. The health benefits of massage are myriad, including an improved immune system, reduction of muscle pain, and lowered stress. Consider a massage at home, then a glass of red wine or (decaf) coffee and your lavender-scented pillow.
An in home massage is especially effective because there’s no need to spoil the stress-reducing effects of a massage by traveling by car or train. Choose a home massage (or a massage at your hotel, workplace, or event) to get the full self-care benefits.
