Aside from the tummy tuck, what other options are there for trimming the abdomen that won't leave a scar?
John Obi (Jacksonville, FL) on Jan 23, 2012
The options for treatment of the abdominal area depend on what problems are present. If there is just some fatty tissue prominence, liposuction may be a solution. If there is excess skin and stretch marks are present, a surgical procedure such as a "mini"-or full tummy tuck may be required. With the surgery, there will of course be a scar ,but it is usually confined to the bikini area with the mini and takes the form of a scar around the navel with the full procedure.

Exilis is a new non-invasive, fat-melting, skin tightening radio-frequency-based treatment alternative to liposuction and the tummy tuck. Four to five treatments are recommended. Thus far, all of our patients have been satisfied with their experience. Results are moderate and not equal to a tummy tuck. However, Exilis is non-surgical and painless.

There is a large spectrum of options in abdominal contouring and every patient fits into this spectrum differently. A mini-tummy tuck is a procedure with great results similar to a full tummy tuck, but with a scar half the length. A combination of tumescent and laser liposuction can also be a good option for patients and leaves only very small scars. The least invasive option is the SkinTyte Laser, which is a completely non-invasive and painless procedure that tightens the skin by promoting collagen growth. The best way to determine which option is best for you is to consult with a plastic surgeon.
