How long ahead of time should alcohol be avoided to prevent bruising with Restylane?

Daily, moderate to heavy alcohol use damages your liver. And your liver makes clotting factors that stops bleeding. So, if you are not a heavy alcohol drinker with impaired liver function, alcohol does not play that significanta role in causing bruising. That being said, alcohol in the blood may thin your blood until flushed out via urination. Avoid alcohol for a few days before if you are an occasional weekend imbiber. However, it is more important to avoid aspirin for at least one week and up to 14 days before any cosmetic or other procedures. Also, avoid Advil, Motrin and other similar non-steroidal anti-inflammatories for at least 3 days before any cosmetic or other procedures, as these medications do tend to promote bruising. There are other medications that may promote bruising. I recommend asking your treating physician for more detailed info.

While mild alcohol use may not lead to bruising, excessive alcohol use should be avoided for a week to 2 weeks prior to a Restylane treatment.

Red wine thins the blood, increasing the risk of bruising. It should be avoided for about three days before and two days after treatment with Restylane.

Generally it is not the occasional use of alcohol that is the major concern with bruising, it is the use of medications or herbs that affect bleeding such as aspirin, Vit E, Ibuprofen, etc. This holds true for all injectable fillers and other invasive treatments such as surgery.
