Overview

Omega-9 is an important kind of monounsaturated fatty acid that helps protect the heart.

Also referred to as oleic acid, omega-9 is abundant in nature. Because it can be produced in the human body, omega-9 can be classified as a non-essential fatty acid, that is, it does not need to be taken as a supplement or incorporated into the diet.

How much you should have: Two tablespoons (approximately 27 grams) of extra virgin olive oil daily provides enough omega-9 for both men and women.
