Treatment Basics

Regulatory approval: Approved by the FDA in June 2008.

Manufacturer: Johnson and Johnson Consumer and Personal Products Worldwide

Evolence is a collagen filler derived from pigs. Collagen from pig tendons is collected, purified, and suspended in a saline solution at 3.5%. Pig collagen is similar enough to human collagen that allergy tests aren't required, as they are with bovine collagen injections. Evolence is used to fill in wrinkles and folds, like those persistent nasolabial folds, and to plump up the facial skin.

What It's Good For

The face, particularly in folds around the mouth.

How long it lasts: Evolence lasts six months to a year. There have been reports that it "settles," or migrates, downward over time.
