Information And Treatment
Neuropathy is a condition that results when nerves or nerve groups are damaged, causing loss of movement, feeling or function. There are more than 100 different kinds of neuropathy relating to everything from G.I. disease and nutrition imbalances to infections, hereditary conditions, autoimmune disorders and more. Roughly 30 percent of all neuropathy cases are linked to diabetes.
While traditional Western medication is often prescribed for individuals with neuropathy, many who experience tingling, burning and other uncomfortable symptoms turn to complementary and alternative therapies for relief. Acupuncture has been seen to reduce the symptoms of certain kinds of neuropathy over the course of multiple treatments in approximately 75 percent of those who receive it. For individuals with chemotherapy or diabetes-induced neuropathy, massage therapy may offer relief as well.
