Information And Treatment
Fibromyalgia is a painful disorder that causes muscle aches and fatigue. This chronic condition is most common in women, though men can also have fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is characterized by sensitive areas on the body, which can be painful if touched with enough pressure.
Because there are few conventional medical treatments for fibromyalgia, complementary and alternative medical treatments (CAM) are commonly used to manage the condition. According to the NCCAM, a division of the National Institute of Health (NIH) focused on CAM, about 90 percent of people with fibromyalgia use CAM. Common CAM treatments for fibromyalgia include massage, such as trigger point massage (which targets body points made sensitive by fibromyalgia) and acupuncture.
